Bio
Joseph Horst joined the English faculty at East Carolina University as a lecturer in the Spring of 2006 and currently teaches Composition and Writing for Business and Industry.
His full-length play “Enemies” has won 7th place in the 76th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition (Stageplay) in 2007 and received an Honorable Mention in the 2011 Ohio State University at Newark’s Inaugural Play Competition. “Enemies” was also workshopped in the Mendenhall Student Center at ECU in February 2008, raising over $1,500 for a local charity for fallen police officers. In 2012, his ten-minute play “Calliope” was performed in the Tenth Annual North Park Playwrights Festival (San Diego, CA) and the “8×10” Ten Minute Play Festival (Napa, CA).
In December 2013, his short story “Old Glory” was published in the inaugural issue of Slippery Elm, a literary journal from the University of Findlay in Findlay, OH. In February 2015, his short story “Prometheus” won second place in the 2014 Scribes Valley Publishing Short Story Writing Contest and was published in their “Escape Your World” anthology.
